Our whole bodies are used to feel our emotions and our whole bodies are used to express them. The casual connects directly to the physical, bypassing the intellect and these instinctive expressions of the emotional body are known as paralanguage. Para is a Greek word that means alongside of, and the language of your emotions acts parallel to your conscious expressions.

By observing the patterns of paralanguage, we can see our emotional body working independently of our minds and when we consider that over ninety percent of human interactions are expressed in this non-verbal manner, an understanding of paralanguage leads to an articulation of our emotional body. With this analysis we gain insights into our own emotions.

The way our bodies stand and move in the space around and between us is the study of Proxemics. The anthropologist Edward Hall invented the term while studying the social aspects of spatial research. Proxemics gives universal definitions to the shared ordinary actions of people as they carve out their individuality from the common substance of space.

Ask someone what they are up to and hear them reply “nothing” as they slide both hands into their pockets, and you can doubt their sincerity. A hidden inactive hand, usually the left but more accurately the hand you use the least, is telling you the person is unwilling to share their emotions and the hidden right hand, tells you the reluctance is directed towards the outside world. It may also mean that their hands are cold so be mindful of assuming too much.

The term Kinesics was first used by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell, who was modelling how people communicated through nonverbal means. The modelling was based on photographs of people as they interacted, and he used those still images to dissect and analyze the paralanguage cues found in them. Birdwhistell used the eye of a camera to slow down the reaction and record the emotional responses expressed through instinctive movement.

Facial expressions and some other hand and body gestures show the release of an emotional tension and Kinesics interprets the physical reflexes accompanying emotions. These casual reflexes offer a steady supply of subliminal signals and the face itself flashes them constantly. They are fleeting but obvious if awareness is applied.

The general appearance of visible body parts such as our skin, hair, and nails, along with the way we smile are more paralanguage cues. Discolouration, scratches, bruises, and any other transient marking of the skin, reflects an emotional state recently encountered. Someone who has suffered an injury in the throat area is also someone who is currently struggling to effect vitality into their feelings and a person with a broken nail on their little finger, will stand to benefit from some help in the communication department.

All of these non-verbal signals reveal the impressions our casual body imposes on our physical body and are included to help you conceive of the emotional entity dwelling within you. An awareness of them helps to translate the unconscious actions of instinct into a language our minds can reason with. Law enforcement, fortune tellers and anthropologists, people who study human behaviour, utilize this information to gain insights into others. When we apply the cues to ourselves instead of to others, we begin the process of connecting to a wealth of occult wisdom. The universal language of humanity is emotional not literal and practising an awareness of  paralanguage gives us insights into oursleves based on the universal patterns of emotion.

When something is invisible it usually means it is not there and the conflict this raises with the intellect, is one barrier to seeing the illumination. Our minds struggle with the invisibility of the vibration and the ethereal nature of emotions. We write lists and draw illustrations because we need to satisfy our intellect. The physical mind must be stretched and then stabilized, to accept the reality of an invisible dual body and the knowledge of an imaginative mind greater than itself.  Stretching reality, our concepts of space and time, and expanding our awareness through the integration of our duality, is not coerced through brainwashing or effected with blind faith. The universe is intimately knowable and training our minds towards this knowledge is a mystical method of simple practice.
