Occult Illumination

Most of us have heard the saying, every face tells a story. The plot for that story revolves around our character and is showcased in our facial features. Recognizing what specific trait belongs to which feature, is the skill of Mukha Jyotish or the modern science of physiognomy. Vibrational information existed before written texts and numbers and because no spoken word can be universal, the universal language of humanity is unspoken. The unspoken is instinctive. 

Our minds make instinctive assumptions subconsciously and within the many individual uses, patterns emerge that compress the nature of humanity. These universal patterns are translated into cues the individual uses to enhance their awareness and explore the intuitive connection symbolized by the eye.  

Mukha Jyotish shows the imprints of character upon our physical features and by reading the face, we may read too the character inhabiting that body. If you raise your eyebrow in skepticism each time you encounter a new idea and your skeptical character etches an intellect line on your face because of it, then it relays to the world that you are hard to impress. If I want to convince you of something, I will need to approach your idealism with practical responses. More importantly, it informs you that this character trait is present as a part of you, and should you desire to change, then taking it into consideration is necessary.

The evolutionary path of gesture and expression, as the universal language that gave rise to speech in homo sapiens, and subsequently, to the rise of the written record, is best told by Micheal Corballis, an esteemed emeritus of psychology, in his 2018 Ted Talk. He begins his lecture with the story of the Tower of Babble. Ancient knowledge is often encapsulated within the citadel of human memory as a myth and mythologies are universal to culture. Stories like the Tower of Babble, relate to the birth of language and how, by recording our emotional expressions outside of ourselves we were able to forget what was once universally known. In that myth language is the tool that baffles communication and clogs the connection, preventing the people from unifying to complete their tower. If language was the tool used to disrupt communication, then an already existing communication, separate from speech, was what was disrupted. 

Literalists like to create historical mythology, but the story of the tower is not a place in physical history. It is a place in our collective memory. The myth incorporates the moment when humanity switched from using the universal language of gesture and expression to the language of words and interpretation and in that process lost the instinctive knowledge.

The Tower of Babble is not a place and the terms enlightenment, illumination, and vibration, are not scientific. Consciousness is not an intellectual construct limited to the mind of mankind. The consciousness of life is present in everything that is alive, and all consciousness connects. Rooted in the unified connection between the communal consciousness of the universe and our individual consciousness, the universal language is unspoken and propelled by emotion. 

Suspended in mythology, the ancient memory of the universal language is still present in our minds and the modern studies of paralanguage and physiognomy, are a recent revival of ancient knowledge. Body language, reading the reflexes of emotion expressed by the body, and face reading, gauging the complexities of human character at a first glance, are the first part of the Ang Vidya. The ancient language of Mukha Jyotish allows us to better understand ourselves and by virtue of its universal nature, better understand those around us.

In each profile the cues are broken down into smaller sets of cues that help to distinguish between the innate physical attributes of our character, the features we are born with, and the effect the active use of these characteristics have on our body.  We are born with features that are unique to our birth but how we express those characteristics also impresses upon our bodies in real time. 

When learning the Mukha, you should refrain from seeing something in everything. No one individual embodies all the markings and features described. These occult disciplines are the collective features of humanity distilled, so that any individual who comes upon them may draw upon the wisdom of the infinite and find awareness. Any such physical marking should be readily visible without having to search for it. Holding a magnifying glass to your face and desperately searching for markings you would like to have or worse, ignoring the ones you do, prevents you from seeing the bigger picture.
